Karnataka Legislative Council Elections news update Voting underway today

The Karnataka Legislative Council elections are currently underway on Monday, February 28, 2022, for six vacant seats in the upper house of the Karnataka State Legislature. The elections are being held for the graduates' and teachers' constituencies.

The graduates' constituency consists of graduates from various fields, including arts, science, commerce, and professional courses, who are permanent residents of Karnataka state. The Karnataka Legislative Council, also known as the Vidhan Parishad, has a total of 75 members, out of which 30 are elected through direct elections from various constituencies, while 45 members are nominated by the Governor of Karnataka based on their expertise in various fields. The term of office for a member of the Legislative Council is six years, with one-third of the members retiring every two years.
