A 27-year-old man has been charged with assault after attacking a former Leeds Rhinos academy player in a Call Lane bar. The victim, Matthew Syron, was glassed in the eyes during the incident and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Syron, who played for the Rhinos from 2014 to 2016, was out with friends at a bar on Call Lane when he was approached by an unknown man. The attacker allegedly threw a glass at Syron, causing him to suffer serious injuries to his eyes.
The incident occurred on Saturday night and the police were called to the scene. The attacker was arrested shortly after and is currently in custody.
Syron, who is originally from Leeds, has been praised for his talent as a rugby league player and his contributions to the Rhinos team. He made his debut for the first team in 2014 and went on to make 37 appearances before leaving the club in 2016.
